One of the most amazing things I got to do on this school was co-lead a team to the beautiful Island nation of FIJI!!!! This is the fulfillment of a 7 year long dream to venture into the Pacific, so of course I was stoked that it was finally my chance to go and learn first-hand what God is doing there! There are soooo many stories I could share with you from that time, but I thought I would start with a slideshow for now... check it out.
The YWAM base we worked with in LABASA, FIJI was such a blessing to us... working alongside of them in the city, some of the things we experienced during our month stay were... a category 2 hurricane (cyclone) & flood, walking miles outside of town hand-delivering food and vegetables to a poor Indian Village, gone door to door to pray with Hindus, helping hand out Christmas presents for Samaritan’s Purse, doing a Christmas drama at a prison, visiting an old folks home and an open mic night at a local coffee club… a lot of our work was just meeting people, building relationships and finding creative ways to show them the love of Jesus.
Fiji surpassed all of our expectations (just like every outreach experience has in my almost 8 years with YWAM)... It was an extremely challenging outreach, but also a humbling, eye-opening, and heart changing experience for all of us. A new thing for me on this trip, which was one of my highlights, was the opportunity to do staff training for the DTS staff for a few days - I taught on things from the importance of keeping the 1st commandment 1st place in our lives and calling, fear of the Lord and accountibility... to... practical things like how to write a newsletter. I even had time to help them start their own blog - check it out - http://www.ywamlabasafiji.blogspot.com/ BUT...Probably the BEST PART of the trip has been seeing the students' lives impacted by all that they are experiencing... many of them will be continuing on in missions
WOW... I cant believe how time flies by - it seems like only yesterday... what a wonderful journey... Thanks for sharing it with me!! I want to leave you with some food for thought - a quote from a book I'm reading -
To look is one thing
To see what you look at is another
To understand what you see is a third
To learn from what you understand
is still something else
But to act on what you learn
is ALL that really matters, isnt it?
